Luxid Vue on SteamOS: Handheld Big-Screen Setup
A guide to SteamOS display compatibility, the planned app, beta access and the December 2026 launch roadmap.
Can SteamOS use the glasses as a display?
A SteamOS handheld can use VueAR Glass as an external display when the device and connection path provide compatible video output. That is a display connection; it does not require the Luxid Vue app. It is useful for playing from a handheld while viewing the game on a larger private screen.
The upcoming SteamOS app is a separate layer intended to add Luxid-specific workspace and tracking capabilities. Do not confuse basic display output with app features, and check the current SteamOS release notes before assuming a particular mode is available.
What should handheld players compare?
Compare three things: whether the handheld can output video over its port or dock, whether the game works well on an external display, and whether you need the Luxid app’s spatial features. For a quick gaming session, standard display output may be enough. For a broader virtual workspace, app support matters.
The project plan is to launch SteamOS support in December 2026, with beta access expected beforehand. Dates and feature scope can move; contact Luxid for the latest build rather than treating a roadmap as a shipping guarantee.
- Direct display: simplest route when the handheld outputs video

A portable setup checklist
Check the handheld model, USB-C video capability, power needs, and any dock or adapter before travelling. Test one game in handheld mode, then connect the glasses and verify audio and controls. If you want to participate in the app beta, send support the SteamOS version and device model.
This comparison keeps expectations honest: VueAR Glass can serve as a portable external display today on compatible hardware; the dedicated SteamOS application is the upcoming step for deeper app integration.
